Philippa Gerrard

Director

Philippa Gerrard joined the 56 Degrees North team having spent seven years working as a journalist. Being present during the digital transformation of newsrooms has given her insight into the types of creative, data-led content which resonate with audiences in today’s busy world.

For the last five years, Philippa has been based in Aberdeen working for the Press & Journal. This included roles on the features desk and long-read investigations team, and most recently as an environment and transport reporter and team lead. During this time she was awarded a Scottish Press Award for a beach cleaning campaign and nominated for a UK Press Award in the digital initiative category. Another highlight was driving an electric van from John O’ Groats to Glasgow ahead of COP26 to highlight environmental issues facing key industries in Scotland ahead of the conference.

Prior to the Press & Journal, Philippa worked at a marine news magazine and website based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Here she specialised in business news with a particular focus on tuna (yes, really).
